SILE WALSH

Overview

After a hiatus from art while raising my young children I returned to the studio in 2017 and have been practising as a professional artist to date. Largely self-taught I studied in Grennan Mill Craft School, Thomastown , Kilkenny in 1994-95 and then followed a different career path while consistently practising art on an amateur level. As a member of Waterford Live Art, I have attended life drawing sessions on a weekly basis over fifteen years. I spent 2017 in the studio building a body of work to represent myself, focusing on establishing myself as a professional artist and completing several commissions.

A successful heat contestant in Sky Portrait Artist 2019 (filmed in 2018) my trajectory into the art world was very immediate. The majority of my work is based on communities that gravitate around the ocean through surfing and swimming and I am currently working on an exhibition "Strong Women and the Sea", to be shown in a private gallery in Barcelona, Spain.
